This page contains legal information regarding the Chhoeun v. Giles Class Action settlement. This is meant to provide Chhoeun class members with more details regarding the proposed settlement. You may be a Chhoeun class member entitled to relief under the proposed settlement if you are:
- A Cambodian national
- Who received a deportation order; and
- Was released from immigration detention

The court order granting preliminary approval of the class settlement on July 9, 2025 is linked here. A subsequent order clarifying the preliminary approval order on July 22, 2025 is linked here.
Please note that the November 25, 2025 court hearing on the fairness of the settlement (referenced in the class notices and court orders linked above), which was postponed due to the federal government shutdown at the end of 2025, has now been rescheduled to April 17, 2026. The court will reschedule the hearing after the government shutdown is over. Please check this website after the government shutdown concludes, for the new hearing date.
The April 17, 2026 hearing fairness of the settlement will be held at 9:00 am before the Honorable John W. Holcomb, United States District Court Judge in Courtroom 9D of Ronald Reagan Federal Building and United States Courthouse, 411 West Fourth Street, Santa Ana, California 92701.
