Omar P. Calimbas – Staff Attorney

Omar P. Calimbas is an ALC staff attorney with the housing and elder law program.  For the past six years, he has represented clients in trial, appellate and administrative matters concerning a broad range of poverty law issues.  Before joining ALC, he was a staff attorney at Micronesian Legal Services in the Northern Mariana Islands.  With a clientele composed mainly of Asian citizens and Pacific Islanders, he provided direct representation and consultation in a variety of civil matters, including immigration protections under VAWA, T and U visa laws, debtor rights, welfare benefits, family law, and probate.  As a former attorney at Alaska Legal Services in Juneau, his work included eviction defense litigation, consumer protection cases, Medicaid termination appeals, and a federal case involving Alaska Native subsistence fishing rights.  He is a graduate of the American University, Washington College of Law, where he received a Dean’s Award of Professional Responsibility for outstanding achievement as a student attorney with the International Human Rights Clinic.
