Hyeon-Ju Rho – Executive Director
Hyeon-Ju Rho is the Executive Director of the Asian Law Caucus in San Francisco, the nation’s oldest organization advocating for the civil and legal rights of Asians and Pacific Islanders. The mission of the Asian Law Caucus is to promote, advance, and represent the legal and civil rights of Asian and Pacific Islander communities, with a focus on addressing the needs of low-income, immigrant and underserved individuals.
Hyeon-Ju’s career has been dedicated to ensuring that legal and political systems recognize and protect the rights of vulnerable groups. She was a trial attorney in the Civil Rights Division of the U.S. Department of Justice as part of the Attorney General’s Honors Program, and practiced poverty law as a staff attorney at the Urban Justice Center in New York City. She is currently a Board member of the Asian American Justice Center. Hyeon-Ju has also supported social justice movements abroad, as the Country Director of the American Bar Association Rule of Law Initiative program in China.
Hyeon-Ju is a graduate of Swarthmore College and New York University Law School, where she was a Root-Tilden-Kern Public Interest Scholar and co-founder of the annual Korematsu Lecture honoring Asian American contributions to the law. She is admitted to practice law in the state of New York.
